INTERNATIONAL AWARDS: FORMER SANT’ANNA SCHOOL PHD STUDENT AND AFFILIATED RESEARCHER SELECTED AS ONE OF 10 RISING STARS N2WOMEN 2020 IN COMPUTER NETWORKING AND COMMUNICATIONS
Molka Gharbaoui, a former Sant’Anna School PhD student and affiliate academic with the TeCIP Institute (Communication, Information and Perception Technologies), now a researcher at the National (Italian) Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications – CNIT, has received the N2Women 2020 recognition as one of the 10 Rising Stars in Computer Networking and Communications. A PhD student at the InReTe Lab., she received her Ph.D. degree in innovative technologies of information and communications engineering and robotics from Sant’Anna in 2012.
N2Women is a discipline-specific community of researchers in the fields of networking and communications. N2Women encourages diversity and aims at fostering connections among under-represented women in this computing sub-field. Founded by Tracy Camp and Wendi Heinzelman, N2Women (Networking Networking Women) organized its first meeting in 2006 in Italy. Camp and Heinzelman led the community for over 10 years, during which time it grew to over 1,400 members. Since 2016, N2Women organizes events at major conferences to foster connections among the underrepresented women in communications, computer networking, and related research fields. Every year 10 inspiring women, who believe proactive action is required for improving retention rate in the research community, can share the same research interests and face similar career hurdles as women.
“Molka is a talented scientist - said Piero Castoldi, Professor of Telecommunication Technology at the TeCIP Institute InReTe Lab. - Her main research interests are the support of QoS in transport networks, the development and the implementation of service-oriented architectures, cloud computing, and service management for smart cities. An expert on the network-cloud ecosystem and a highly esteemed researcher in the orchestration of heterogeneous domains, she has co-authored many papers and received several awards. N2Women highlights the achievements of “rising women talents” who are in the early stages of their scientific careers. Molka is a brilliant young researcher and recognizing her talent will ensure that she reaches her full potential”.
